A new shopping model after the epidemic in the United States, beauty and shoes are the most popular

More than 53 % consumers buy beauty products online

The survey found that the majority of Americans (56%) are more concerned about skincare than they were before the outbreak. At the same time, many consumers are reducing their use of cosmetics, with more than half (54%) saying they wear less makeup than they did before the outbreak.

Consumer shopping channels have also changed, with more than half of shoppers (53 %) now buying more beauty products online. Most of them are younger shoppers, with 66% of Gen Z shoppers and 58% of millennials saying they spend more online on beauty products than they did before the outbreak.

47% consumers now shop online at beauty retailers, such as Ulta.com or Sephora.com, up from 47% who buy beauty products online on Amazon. In addition, US consumers are also spending significantly more online, with almost half (49%) saying they spend more than $50 per month, up from just 16% in 2019.

While price, brand and quality are important, beauty consumers are increasingly looking for products and brands that align with their values. More than three quarters (76%) of shoppers said they were more likely to buy eco-friendly beauty products. Gen Z shoppers (86%) and millennials (80%) are even more likely to buy eco-friendly beauty products.


Q1 running shoe sales in the U.S. totaled $1.8 billion

According to the latest data from NPD, running shoe sales in the U.S. totaled $1.8 billion in the first quarter of 2021, up 32% from $1.3 billion in 2020.

Of note, sales of men's running shoes totaled $886.3 million, up 34% from $662.9 million last year. Sales of women's running shoes increased 32% year-over-year, from $446.1 million in the first quarter of 2020 to $590.1 million in the first quarter of 2021. Sales of children's running shoes reached $281.6 million in the first quarter of 2021, up 26% from $224.2 million a year earlier.

In addition, sales of football shoes were up 174%. Running and hiking are among the best options for Americans to maintain a healthy lifestyle while staying safe. Spring hiking has boosted sales of hiking shoes by 60%this season.
