Tim Davis to lead The UPS Store network

Thursday, July 26th, 2012

UPS has named Tim Davis as the new president of its The UPS Store franchise retail network to succeed Stuart K Mathis.

Mathis, who has been president of The UPS Store for 10 years, is moving into the sandwich retail business. Although officially retiring from his position at The UPS Store, he was appointed last week as president and CEO of struggling US sandwich chain Quiznos effective 30th July.

Davis has been with The UPS Store for 10 years, most recently as vice president of operations since 2009, after joining as vice president of technology.

During his time with The UPS Store, he has also held the position of vice president/general manager of iShip, Inc., the UPS-owned software as a service shopping platform.

Prior to joining The UPS Store in 2002, the former US Marine Corps captain and Gulf War veteran held a variety of leadership positions for the UPS third party logistics platform ConnectShip, Inc.

A native of Little Rock, Arkansas, Davis is a political science graduate of the South Carolina military college The Citadel, and has a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Tulsa.

Ability

UPS said his time at the UPS Store has seen him leading development of a variety of new technologies and a new strategy to grow print services for franchisees.

Myron Gray, the UPS president of operations, said: “Since joining the company 10 years ago, Tim has demonstrated his ability to help The UPS Store network meet its operational objectives and grow the business by better serving our customers and franchisees. I have every confidence that he can lead our franchise owners to even greater levels of growth.”

The UPS Store currently has nearly 4,700 locations across the US, Puerto Rico and Canada.

Stuart Mathis joined the retail network Mail Boxes, Etc., (MBE) in 2001 shortly before it was acquired by The UPS Store, as vice president of operations. He was subsequently promoted to president of The UPS Store in the fall of 2002 to oversee the rebranding of MBE branches across the country into The UPS Store outlets.

During his time as president, The UPS Store sold off its international network of about 1,200 locations in 2009.

UPS board

Today (26 July) UPS named a former presidential advisor in the Bush White House as its new company director.

Kevin M Warsh, 42, was a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve from 2006 until April 2011, spending the previous four years as President George W Bush’s special assistant for economic policy for four years and executive secretary of the National Economic Council. During the late 1990s Warsh was an executive in Morgan Stanley & Co.’s mergers and acquisitions department.

A Stanford and Harvard graduate, he is currently a distinguished visiting fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution and a lecturer at its Graduate School of Business.

UPS said Warsh’s appointment expands its Board to 13 members. He will stand for election to a regular one-year term at the UPS shareholders’ meeting in May 2013.
